Curve Study

This project began as an experiment in steam bending and wood lamination, without a clear outcome in mind.

I started by steam bending walnut strips of different thicknesses. Once I found a thickness that could bend well, I laminated multiple strips together into a single curved form.

To give the curve a purpose, I designed a simplified chair around it. I wanted to play with proportions and shapes. Even though the chair is not the most functional, the project achieved its goal by teaching me a lot about different techniques and the playful approach of experimenting.

Materials

The Curve Study is made from solid black walnut. This was my first project using walnut, a wood that had always been my favorite. Previous projects felt more like practice, and it seemed a waste to use such a beautiful material. With this piece, I wanted to take my work more serious and trust that I could put the wood to good use.
